WALKER COUNTY
East of Fayette. Jasper anchors the county; smaller towns ring it.

WORKING IN WALKER COUNTY
Walker County is old coal country. Jasper is the largest town in our regular service area outside Tuscaloosa and Birmingham, and the ring of smaller towns — Cordova, Sumiton, Dora, Carbon Hill, Parrish, Oakman — grew up around the mines and the Frisco rail line. Terrain is steep and narrow along the Black Warrior tributaries, so cut-and-fill, retaining walls, and drainage are part of nearly every building site.
LOCAL LANDMARKS

LOCAL CULTURE
Coal, country music, and the Bankhead political dynasty are all part of the local story — Tallulah Bankhead's family hometown is Jasper. Foothills Festival in Jasper each fall, hunting and bass fishing on Smith Lake just to the north, and a strong small-town identity in every one of the ring towns.
