Winston County is Bankhead country. Double Springs sits deep in the William B. Bankhead National Forest, Haleyville rides the western edge, and the terrain gets steep, wooded, and rocky fast. Access roads, driveways, and hunting lanes out here almost always need cut-and-fill and careful water management — the Sipsey Fork drains a lot of ground.
